What is it?

Urban Skin RX (USRX) was first put on my radar by one of my favorite beauty YouTubers, Teaira Walker. When I read more into the company, I noticed they had a product line that instantly caught my attention. If you read my last skincare product review, you’d know that one of my biggest struggles has always been hyperpigmentation. If I find any product claiming to lighten my dark spots, I’m all in.

The USRX product line can be used for all skin tones BUT it caters to the skin conditions and needs of darker skin tones. When I first read that, I thought finally! I need something with my skin specifically in mind. So, I headed to their website, took their skin quiz and looked through the products they recommended to target my hyperpigmentation. Once I read about the Even Tone Cleansing Bar, I knew I needed to try it.

What does it claim to do?

The 3-in-1 Even Tone Cleansing Bar is a complexion perfecting cleansing treatment that improves the appearance of uneven skin tone and dark marks. It works as a daily cleanser, mask and exfoliator. This unique cleansing system delivers a proprietary formula, ClearTone Advanced Technology by way of an enclosed exfoliating sponge and cleanser in a jar. This technology of 6 ingredients work synergistically to reveal a healthy and even complexion. Perfect for all skin types (urbanskinrx.com).

What did it do for me?

Let’s cut right to the chase. Did this cleansing bar lighten my hyperprigmentation? Yes! Dark spots on my face usually take months to clear up. I used the product for a month and I noticed a HUGE difference. Not only did it help lighten the marks on my face, but it left me with softer skin and a brighter complexion.

Though all of this sounds perfect there were some things I didn’t like too much about using the cleanser. Each jar includes two exfoliating sponges to use. I felt very weird about reusing a sponge on my face. To make me feel a little better, I used one sponge for the first two weeks and the second for the rest of the month. I also felt weird about taking a sponge, which is known to harbor bacteria, and placing it in the jar to wash my face in the morning and at night.

Another thing I didn't like was at times it felt like there was a residue left on my face if I used too much. And finally, after using it consistently twice a day for two weeks, it started to dry out my skin. The sponge can be bit abrasive for sensitive skin if you go in too hard (which I will admit I was doing), so I lessened my usage to once a day and then to every other day.

Cons

  • Includes reusable sponges

  • Can leave residue on face

  • Dries out skin

Pros

  • Lightened hyperpigmentation (quickly)

  • Revealed a brighter complexion

  • Softened the skin

  • can be used three different ways

Buy or Don’t Try

With that being said, would I recommend anyone buy this product? Yes! If hyper pigmentation is your issue, I’d say it’s a DEFINITE BUY. I really appreciate that the product didn’t take forever for me to see a dramatic change in how my dark spots appeared. I’d just warn anyone with supersensitive skin to start slow and not to jump into using it everyday, twice a day. See how your skin likes it and make the necessary changes.

I’ll definitely be purchasing more USRX products in the future!
