My SAG Awards Red Carpet Experience
This Sunday, I had the opportunity to attend the SAG Awards Red Carpet. I know, right?! I was so excited to see my favortie celebrities on something other than a TV screen, or for us cord cutters, a computer screen. It was an experience that I'll never forget.
Keep reading and get a glimpse of what it was like and who I saw on the red carpet!
SAG Ready
Jumpsuit: Boohoo | Blazer: Goodwill
Deciding what to wear was my favorite step (obviously). I hit up all my favorite stores on Saturday and went in search for the perfect cocktail dress. Before leaving that morning, I knew I didn't want anything white or black. This was my chance to be on TV, even though I had a 50% chance of being in the background of a picture or video. So, I found a nice pink number and headed home. This was when reading was fundamental, guys. I got home only to find out that I read the instructions wrong and was required to wear black or white. Poop. The very thing I was against wearing was the very thing I had to. Hence, this jumpsuit making a reappearance.
Stuntin'
Bag: Flynn | Shoes: Ann Taylor
The day of the event, I arrive to what I think is the location only to be told after being redirected six times that I was blocks away from check-in. I had about 15 minutes left to make it and I was in heels! Thankfully, something told me to add in my shoe cushions.
I booked it to check-in where I signed a waiver and waited for the buses to shuttle us the venue. We arrived just in time to see celebrities start to trickle in. Dave Franco kicked it off with a smile and a wave toward the section I was sitting in. That's when I knew I was going to be starstruck for the rest of the night.
Caleb McLaughlin Having Fun With the Crowd
wearing Louis Vuitton (jacket), Antonio Marras (pants)
As more celebrities stood in line for their turn in front of the cameras, the frenzy began. One thing I realized is that if I were a celebrity, I'd hate red carpets. Everyone is yelling your name, cameras are flashing capturing your every move, photographers are yelling at you to do certain poses and you're being whisked away from one interview to the next. Unless you're Morgan Freeman. He just walked through after a few pictures despite the calls from photographers, reporters and fans.
While some celebrities looked like they dreaded the whole idea of the red carpet, others seemed more into it. Caleb McLauglin is the perfect example. While taking pictures, he shifted between serious and fun poses and when in view of the crowd, he made faces and gestures that showed he was enjoying himself.
Tracee Ellis Ross Looking Glamorous
wearing Ralph & Russo Haute Couture
Tracee looks perfect as always and this is where I saw a human side to celebrities. She gave a quick smile and wave before returning to her phone. Either she was handling business or posting an epic selfie but it reminded me that they're not always "on". In interviews, Tracee is usually boisterous and the life of the party, but sometimes you just don't want to be.
Samira Wiley Draped in the stars
wearing Tadashi Shoji
It was an exciting moment for me to see Samira in this dress. I was actually working at Tadashi when talks and fittings for it were in the works. Seeing the design of one of my co-workers come to life on such a beautiful woman was priceless.
Yara Shahidi Slaying...As Always
wearing Ralph Lauren Collection
All I can say is I teared up a little when I saw Yara walk out. She's even prettier in real life. Also, if you haven't seen an episode of Grown-ish, you are definitely missing out. It's brilliant!
Niecy Nash Looking Snatched
wearing Julea Domani
Niecy was snatched in this gown! Her curves we on display in the most beautiful way.
Lupita Nyong'o Sporting Her Flawless Glow
wearing Ralph & Russo
Lupita is a goddess on-screen and off-screen. I actually saw her today for the second time in a hallway and I was #shooketh. I let out a squeaky hi and then ducked into a hallway heading in the opposite direction from which I came. This resulted in me being lost in the building but hey, I got to see Lupita up close and personal.
Halle Berry. Enough Said
wearing Pamella Roland
I mean, it's Halle Berry looking as Halle Berry does--perfect.
Dascha Polanca
Regally Walking
the
Carpet
This is one gorgeous lady. She seemed to glide across the carpet as she walked from reporter to reporter.
Overall, I 10/10 recommend you go to some sort of red carpet event if you have the chance. It's a great experience to be so close to the stars you obsess over behind a screen.
